“What is the difference between day camp and Cub World?”
Day camp is a great program. But at Cub World, it is OVERNIGHT. There are three days of MEALS. You sleep and participate in imaginative THEME AREAS. Activities are NINETY MINUTES LONG, over half an hour more time than at Day Camp. We have three nights of CAMPFIRES with skits, songs, and recognition. We have an outstanding PAID STAFF. They are certified, trained, enthusiastic, and THEY put on the program FOR YOU. Parents get to enjoy the program, they don't have to put it on, like at day camp.
“What is the difference between Adventure Weekends and Cub World?”
Adventure Weekends are great programs put on by dedicated volunteers. At Cub World, scouts become part of their THEME AREA... they become squires, or pirates, or deputies. It's not just WHERE they sleep, it is a whole THEMED PROGRAM from arrival to departure. Cub World sessions are LONGER than Adventure Weekends. We have SWIMMING at our pool, we have GO CARTS, we have THREE nights of CAMPFIRES and a CARNIVAL. We have GROUP PHOTOS for every boy in camp to always remember the friends he made and the quality time with mom or dad. We are in the great weather of JULY. Our activities are longer than Adventure Weekends, time to truly enjoy an area with your son. And we have an outstanding, enthusiastic PAID STAFF. THEY put on the program FOR YOU. Our SERVICES DEPARTMENT keeps the camp and dining halls clean and maintained. We are a full service RESIDENT CAMP with a National Camp School Certified Camp Director, Program Director, Commissioner, Aquatics Director, and Ecology Director. You want any old weekend with your son at this precious age? Adventure Weekends are fine. You want the TIME of YOUR life and lifelong memories with your son at CUB WORLD? Then we'll see you at OUR camp!
“Why are sessions on Thursday-Saturday and Sunday-Tuesday?”
Splitting the weekend into the two sessions in a week is better in the big picture. It spreads out the participants throughout the summer, providing for a better program. When weekends were full to the max, and weekdays were empty, the council paid for a staff in an empty camp, where they would lose their edge, and be unprepared to deliver the quality program on the weekends. For those who are forced to take two days out of work to be with their son at Cub World, for the quality time and what you get, dollar for dollar it is still a better value to other family vacations. Our staff is able to, and will continue to, be at their best and deliver to you an energetic, enthusiastic, top-notch program.
“Can a Cub Scout go to Cub World if his pack does not sign up?”
YES! A cub scout and their parent does not need to be with their pack to come to Cub World. Coming to Cub World as a pack can be a lot of fun as boys and adults get to be with their friends. But coming to Cub World as an individual is fun too, as you make new friends in your area and in the camp. The program is staff-driven, so it really does not matter.
“Can a Cub Scout go to Cub World during a different session than the rest of his pack?”
YES! Individuals can sign up for any session at all. Boys can even come more than once in the summer.
“Can my son go to Cub World without a parent?”
Yes! He can! Camp is set up to have a minimum of one adult for every four cub scouts. In actuality, there are usually two adults for every three boys in camp. Each resident area is directed by an adult. He and his assistant are trained to be responsible for any youth who may be on their own. The camp is director is certified by the BSA National Camp School. More than half of the staff are adults. It can also be a great opportunity for grandparents, uncles, or step-parents to bond with the boy. Your son will have a great time at Cub World making new friends and having all kinds of cub scout fun!
“If we recruit new Tigers in the spring, can they come to Cub World?”
No! Cub World Resident Camp is not for new Tigers. It is for boys entering Wolf-Webelos II. That is, entering grades 2-5. Cub World is not age appropriate for boys entering the first grade.
“Can our pack’s den chiefs go to Cub World?”
Yes! Boy Scout Den Chiefs pay the adult fee with their packs.
“What time do we arrive at Cub World?”
Please arrive between 1:45 and 2:00pm on the first day of your session. Camp is not open before check-in begins at 2:00pm.
“Can Second-Year Webelos stay with the rest of the pack in the theme areas?”
Second Year Webelos are encouraged to attend the Webolos Adventure at Camp Yawgoog. This program is designed to meet the age appropriate skills and needs of second-year Webelos. If they are not participating in the Webelos Adventure at Yawgoog they may come to Cub World with their pack but they will be repeating the program laid out for the Cub Scouts.
“What are the sleeping arrangements at Cub World?”
Separate sleeping facilities are provided for men and women. In the theme areas, buildings are designated as being for fathers and sons, or for mothers and sons. Please cooperate with your resident area director when you are being assigned your sleeping accommodations. Adults need to respect the privacy of youth members in situations such as changing for swimming or for bed. They also need to protect their own privacy in similar situations.
“What are the rest room and shower facilities?”
Each theme area and the pool has independent assigned rest rooms for Cub Scouts, Men, and Women equipped with flush toilets, soap, and paper towels. The three theme areas and the pool have independent warm and clean shower facilities for Men and Women. These are for adults only. The pool has separate shower facilities for all youth. Our Services and Pool Staffs clean and stock all of our facilities daily.
“Can someone arrive late, leave early, or leave for portion of a session?”
Yes. In the event a Cub Scout or adult cannot be in camp for the full session, their fees can be pro-rated based on how many of seven meals they are in camp for. Staying overnight includes the breakfast meal.
“Is there a discount for brothers?”
You bet. Cub Scouts who are brothers attending the same session may deduct $20 from each of their fees.
“How do we get the site of our choice for next year?”
Packs may select their site and session for the following year upon check-in by rolling over their $50 site deposit, or paying their $50 site deposit.
“How do we choose where we stay?”
Most packs rotate from year to year between the three theme areas, Castle, Outer Space, and High Seas. All of these theme areas are open to all ranks, and packs are encouraged to stay together.
